Eventually (i.e. within the next 6-8 months), Cairo
will be up-to-snuff, and GTK 2.10 will be released
with a decent printing framework in place. At that
point, libgnomeprint will die the horrible death that
it most certainly deserves. And we'll transition over
to a native GTK+Cairo solution when the time comes.

But until then, there isn't a better printing solution
for the GTK+ technology stack than libgnomeprint. And
suggesting that we "roll our own" is completely
unacceptable. We did that. It sucked.

*It was broke. We did fix it.* I can elaborate on the
many various ways that our in-house printing solution
was broken if you intend to draw this discussion out.

Don't be spooked by the "gnome" in its name.
libgnomeprint doesn't depend on anything that's not
required by GTK+ already. And libgnomeprintui's canvas
and glade dependencies are trivial, as far as these
things go.

Best,
Dom
