Mockups and stuff

Hi Folks,

it has been brought to my attention that the OLPC hardware will
feature a resolution of 640x480 in colour mode and about 1000x800 in
black/white.

AbiWord (gtk) never did particularly well on low res displays, so I
made a few mockups how a simplified UI could look[1]. It draws a lot
of inspiration from [2] and [3], the main difference however is that
the menu/toolbar split doesn't exist. All menuitems have a tool-button
with a default action assigned (see bottom mockup). The leftmost
toolbutton represents the icon metaphor in the file manager (oh how i
love buzzwords).

Please take that with a grain of salt, we all[4] know that
- The HIG is better than any religion (which renders this heresy).
- Developers cannot design UIs.
- The vocal minority is bad.
- I'm not wearing my orange sunglasses.
- The mockups have NOT been created with inkscape.

There are no immediate plans for implementing this evil stuff. I have
not yet been able to find out if/how closely OLPC software follows the
GNOME HIG. If anyone could shed light on that issue would be much
appreciated.
