I would say that Abiword is lighter in the best way. The focus on core
functions is the big selling point - plus the simple point that it is a
word processor which doesn't include spreadsheets, presentation
applications and other things you get with the office suites.
I like thinking of myself as fairly productive with text, and Abiword does
the trick, putting out PDFs as it should. I haven't used it much with
OpenDocument, though.
I haven't encountered crashes since I started using it, and that is quite
some years ago now.
