ODF for older Abi?

Greetings all,

Does anyone know if it's possible to engineer an open document format
plug-in for an older version of
Abiword? I know that, generally, older versions of plug-ins are not
compatible with new versions of Abiword. But is there some way that
Abiword 2.2.3 can be made to handle open document format?
