I can tell you that the problem is not with Abiword - it works great
here! Probably the people to be talking to are the Slackware package
maintainers, they are the ones who set the dependencies (I think).

I have heard that Slackware is a bit more willing to let you "mix and
match" your apps than, say, Redhat. But it's always wise to follow your
distro's suggested versions because of dependencies. Does Slackware
recommend this version of Abiword? If not, and you want to use the
latest and greatest, then you need to learn to hack like a pro! :-)
