So what was the question again?

First off I must make it clear this issue has nothing to do with abiword.

The old GTK file chooser (file open/save dialog) included a delete button,
so when were opening a different version of chapter10.abw you would be
able to delete other versions from within the file chooser before doing
so.

There were different factions at work in the design of the new file
chooser, most annoyingly one group in particular who like to think the
file chooser can be done away with and want to encourage everyone to use
Nuatilus (a future gazing attitude which I think got in the way of
designing the file chooser for the here and now).

The new file chooser does not provide any way to delete files. It really
wasn't something we expected anyone to be doing very often. You must
admit it is an unusual way of doing things compared to using the file
manager as Hubert suggested.

Frankly yes, and I bet you use the command line often enough to recognise
that Nautilus makes many task more complicated than alternate ways of
doing things. The key in this task is context and the file chooser
generally remembers where you were and takes you to the right folder. I
would strongly encourage you to set up some suitable bookmarks for your
user in Nautilus (or whatever other file manager you decide to use).

I guess it wouldn't kill the GTK developers to have the Delete key
actually do something in the file chooser dialog, and perhaps include
delete in the context menu. You might want to file a bug in Gnome
Bugzillla and bring this up on the Gnome Usability mailing list
(usability@gnome.org).

Sincerely

Alan Horkan.
