This may be related to the use of Microsoft Word documents.

The behaviour has been improved substantially in newer versions of abiword
but we delibarately dont allow you to just quickly Save the document
because in the background it is being converted to RTF and there is a risk
of data loss and we want to try and avoid users accidentally overwriting
the original document (and even then it should only happen on the first
save if it has been fully fixed).

If this is occuring with other document types then it is bug, but I am
also reasonably sure it has already been fixed.

Dont know, try "page setup" is my only random guess.

If you are not in a position to upgrade right now as Martin wisely
suggested then please do upgrade in the near future when Abiword 2.0 is
released, I think you will like it.
