I have seen similar problems and as far as I can tell they are related to
font kerning, I think there is still some code incorrectly assumign fixed
character widths.
I think, but I am by no means certain that this is a known problem an that
there are bugs filed in bugzilla but even if they are they may be quite
difficult to identify from the descriptions.

I am not currently haveing any problmes with the abiword site but it has
been known to be quite tempremental in the past. Even if there is a
problem the developers usually resolve it fairly quickly to please do try
again later.

I am glad to see people embracing both Abiword and OpenOffice, people
sometimes forget that using both is an option.
