i've got the same problems a week ago , it's related to freetype
maybe you have freetype 1 and 2 installed (one coming with xfree and an
other , maybe under an other prefix)
i managed to have only freetype2 installed , and removed previous
freetype files
now i have only /usr/X11R6/include/freetype2 being a link to
/usr/local/include/freetype2
relaunch ./configure before retrying to compile :)
