    Dieter,

CUPS is a replacement for the Berkeley lpr printing system. It uses the
    same syntax.

First: did you define printers in CUPS? Invoke /usr/sbin/printers (that's
where it is on our Red Hat boxes, use 'locate printers' to find where it is
on your S.u.S.E. box). Use the CUPS System Administrator's Manual to
properly configure your printer(s). Test them.

Second: modify your print string in LyX, if necessary, to specify the
particular printer to use. It may be necessary with only one printer, but
probably not. For example, you'd use 'lpr -P myprinter' to define the
    destination for LyX.

Third: if nothing comes out the far end of the process, take a look at the
job status in /usr/sbin/printers and, if necessary, clear any existing CUPS
    processes.
