I know there are usability and popularity issues involved in abiword's
use of MDI (mutiple document interface).

But the most popular MIcrosoft products already use MDI (as do the Corel
and Lotus suites). So corporate user acceptance should not be an issue.
StarOffice, perhaps the No. 2 office suite in the world now, also uses,
even abuses, MDI. As far as the Net is concerned, the most popular
alternative browsers use MDI, including Opera, Mozilla and Galeon, in
the form of "tabs." (I haven't used Explorer)
