    I also remember, and I hope it's not misleading, that after running

    $ mktfdir -d > fonts.scale

    I have replaced foundry names in fonts.scale with -ttf, and set prefered encoding, as they are reported by

    $ xlsfonts | grep ^-ttf

    Only then I run

    $ mkfontdir
