Let me state this more clearly:
A distribution contains a given set of package where some depends on
the others.
A package depends on a given set of packages of specified version,
even more if it depends on some GNOME package.
So a package is designed for ONE distribution version, nothing else.
If you don't run that distribution, you are SOL.
Usually rebuilding the package MAY works.
