Subject: Resolving AbiWord Installation error messages

I am installing Abiword 0.9.2.
I got the error message: Failed dependencies:
libgal.so.18 is needed by Abiword.0.9.6.1-1.
In the AbiWord archives I found a reference to go to
www.ximian.com to get the file.
I went to the site and did not find the file listed.
In the AbiWord archives I also found a reference to install the
ximian.com gnome file. So I figured that perhaps libgal.so.18 is
included with ximian gnome.
I ftp'd to the ximian site and found a directory called
/pub/ximian-gnome/redhat-72-i386.
I thought this might be a good directory to use but I found over
20 files that started with gnome. I downloaded two that I thought
might contain the libgal.so.18 file:
gnome-vfs-1.0.1-ximian.5.i386.rpm
gnome-applets-1.4.0.1-ximian.6.i386.rpm
I was successful in rpm'ing the first file but it did not contain
libgal.so.18. I was unsuccessful in rpm'ing the second file - it had a
dependency (I didn't write down what that was).
I think I need some direction about what to do next. I am just
starting to learn Linux and so much of this is foreign to me. I
do a lot of word processing and figured if I could use a Word
processor in Linux I could simultaneously learn the operating
system as I went along. But I'm not getting very far.
