I don't think that this response is very appropriate. His inquiry was
clearly not a flame.

This (trying to get some one else to change it) is exactly what he did.

From his email it is clear that he is not a programmer. Furthermore, AbiWord
is not exactly trivial to download source code and build on a Windows System.
Visual C++ is an expensive piece of software.
The behavior that he pointed out is very confusing for users who do not
understand what file associations are. I've received emails to webmaster
from users who are dismayed and confused about what happened, and who have
even uninstalled AbiWord to try to fix the problem.
The web site tells users to send suggestions to the users list, which he did.
It tells users not to be timid about submitting bug reports, and that even if
the behavior is not a bug it's ok.
Let's not scare people off the lists, eh? I would not be inclined to
contribute to or use AbiWord if, upon pointing out a bug, I was told that I
should fix it myself and stop whining.
