Michael,
About Windows 98 not having the "Open With..." in the right-click context
menu:
If an application is already associated with a file extension in the
registry, Windows 9x stops displaying the "Open With" option. You can get it
back by holding down the Shift key while right-clicking on a file with the
extension in question. You may then choose the application you wish to use,
and may even specify that Windows re-associate the extension with this new
choice of application.
hth,
-Gary

John,
I suppose this could be a problem with my system. I tried uninstalling
AbiWord, cleaning the registry (Norton Utilities), installing again, and the
problem is still there. I've also found that if I change the default for
opening .rtf files to AbiWord (from MS Word), the same problem comes up--the
file can't be found. (And, again, a new blank AbiWord document comes up.)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Incidentally, Windows 98 doesn't have the "Open with" option for .rtf files,
at least not on my computer--only the "Open" option, which opens them in MS
Word.
