Thanks Randy, I would say extended vertically from top to bottom the full
height of the characters block (which makes it stand taller than the
character), as if the character has been shifted one bit to the left or has
an extra byte tagged to the right., I don't think it is the | (pipe)
character displaying.
I incline away from a hardware fault as no other software seems to indicate
this but will try out switching graphics cards when I have an opportunity, it
will at least rule it in or out.
