+dcl(LANG_SON, "Songhai")
According to the Wiki, it's Songhay (redirected from Songhai languages).
We have an active Songhay localizer, Mohomodou Houssouba, who I would
toss this question to, but I believe 'Songhay" is preferred.

Indeed we prefer "Songhay". The entries in Wiki hopefully will change in time, as native speakers contribute to the effort of categorization of languages. There is general standardization of "Songhay" as spelling in the literature, even in French which has an alternate form "Sonrhaï" often used in conversation. After exchanges with WikiMedia persons last year, we got close to having "Songhay" accepted as language with "son" for a base locale. It has not been easy since the creation of "son" in 2008, but we are making headway each year.
Most labels and spellings are carried over from (ethno)linguists who did a great job classifying languages but sometimes drew high walls between close idioms taken as individual languages.
It will take a while to retrace the history of categorization for Songhay, for a time considered as language "isolate". It will be another brief note.
