Howdy Robert,
It looks like there are some issues with AbiWord running within Wine,
unfortunately. Something about Uniscribe not working but the old
renderer working ok. I'm going to experiment more tomorrow with it to
see if I can make any headway. It's more of a "hey that's neat" thing
for apps like AbiWord Portable. It's much more useful for apps like
Firefox Portable and Thunderbird Portable as you can actually get at
your email and bookmarks when you need them on a *nix box... not to
mention being able to install, configure and copy your local bits into
them if you have, say, Ubuntu at home... so you can bring it all with
you and use it within Windows at work/school.
As for the downloads, I had forgotten to update the numbers (hadn't
since soon after the last Portable AbiWord release). It's at 97,000
now. Add another 125,000 to that by factoring in the number of people
that downloaded Portable AbiWord bundled with the Portable Apps Suite.
And I have some USB flash drive manufacturers interested in bundling it
pre-installed on their hardware, too.
Regards,
John
