Just installed the abiword-2.0.4nb3 package from pkgsrc under Linux. It is
from abiword-2.0.4 source.
Running it from a remote Linux machine to my local NetBSD X desktop says:
AbiWord has not been able to find any font. Please check that you have
configured correctly your font config file (it's usually located at
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf)
fc-list on that remote Linux machine tells me:
LucidaBright:style=Italic
Utopia:style=Bold Italic
Fixed:style=Bold
Helvetica:style=Bold Italic
Times:style=Bold Italic
Clean:style=Regular
Utopia:style=Bold
ClearlyU PUA:style=Regular
Charter:style=Bold Italic
Courier:style=Bold Italic
Courier:style=Regular

LucidaBright:style=Regular
Terminal:style=Bold
Lucida:style=Italic

New Century Schoolbook:style=Bold
ClearlyU Alternate Glyphs:style=Regular

LucidaTypewriter:style=Bold

Courier:style=Italic
Charter:style=Regular
Terminal:style=Regular
Fixed:style=Regular
New Century Schoolbook:style=Italic
Courier:style=Bold
Utopia:style=Regular
New Century Schoolbook:style=Regular
So I added the ms-ttf package (for TrueType fonts from Microsoft). And
then ran "sudo fc-cache -v" which told me:
...
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF": caching, 30 fonts, 0 dirs
...
fc-cache: succeeded
But abiword has same error pop-up.
fc-list tells me that I have new fonts, such as:
Arial:style=Regular
Webdings:style=Regular
Verdana:style=Bold Italic
Trebuchet MS:style=Bold Italic
Trebuchet MS:style=Italic
Comic Sans MS:style=Bold
Trebuchet MS:style=Regular
Times New Roman:style=Bold Italic
Arial Black:style=Regular
Impact:style=Regular
Times New Roman:style=Bold
Verdana:style=Bold
Arial:style=Bold Italic
Georgia:style=Bold
Courier New:style=Regular
Times New Roman:style=Italic
Trebuchet MS:style=Bold
Courier New:style=Bold Italic
Georgia:style=Italic
Andale Mono:style=Regular
Georgia:style=Bold Italic
Courier New:style=Bold
Courier New:style=Italic
Times New Roman:style=Regular
Arial:style=Italic
Comic Sans MS:style=Regular
Georgia:style=Regular
Verdana:style=Regular
Verdana:style=Italic
Arial:style=Bold
What does "AbiWord has not been able to find any font" really mean?
I pressed okay several times and it kept popping up.
I looked at the FAQ but it didn't say much (and I didn't see mentioned in
other docs).
My fontconfig is installed from the fontconfig-2.2.1nb3 package (using
pkgsrc on Linux).
And why can't I exit? The error pop-up should give me a choice to exit.
Using kill or xkill seems like the wrong solution.
So then I killed abiword and it started again and there were my new
truetype fonts :)
Please consider:
- telling the user what type of fonts it is looking for in the fonts error
pop-up
- allow it to rescan correctly
- allow a way to exit in case it can't rescan
Thank you for continued development on abiword. It has been quite useful.
