Though I have been using AbiWord for some time, I started trying to use to
write a large document for the first time. In doing so, I came across
several issues. Some I have already reported in Bugzilla but others are
difficult to describe. I would like to start a discussion about some of
these issues so we may track down what is causing them. Please bear with me
if my descriptions need further explanations. I am using AbiWord 2.0.5 on
Windows at work and 2.0.3 on Linux at home.
1) Numbering and formatting is very delicate. For example, the following
Numbered List:
1.
xx
1.1
xx
1.1.1
sometimes turns into something like this:
1.
xx
1.1
xx
1..11
without explanation. I can't really figure out what is causing this and once
it happens, it is difficult to get rid of. Changing the paragraph's format
from Numbered List to Normal and back does not fix it.
2) Numbered Lists nested in Numbered Headings often take on the attributes
of the Numbered Heading.
3) When the text in a Numbered List is selected and the format is changed to
Normal, a different range of text is selected (AbiWord Bugzilla #1679,
Comment #8).
4) Copying and pasting Numbered Lists does not work right (AbiWord Bugzilla
#1730, Comment #15).
1. x 1. x
2. x 2. x
3. x 3. x
some normal text pastes into => some normal text
1. x 4. x
2. x 5. x
3. x 6. x
5) Often the screen jumps around when some type of formatting is applied to
text. For example, if I create a table, highlight a field and change its
background color then the screen jumps and a different part of the document
is displayed when I click apply. In this case, the view of the document
changes so that the table row I just manipulated is at the very bottom of the
display window.
6) Format->Style->Create and Modify does not seem to work right. For
example, if the cursor is on a Header 1 and I decide to Create and Modify the
Header 1 style then my modifications are only applied to the line the cursor
is on. The syle modifications are not applied to all Header 1's throughout
the whole document.
