The Pango stuff I have started working on will be a compile-time
option until it at least partially works and we can use it on all our
platforms. The existing bidi layout engine will remain in place for
the foreseeable future.
About the porting, we will eventually want glib on each platform,
FreeType on each platform, and Pango on each platform. We might
be able to find existing ports for glib, and FT will not be a problem. I
am not sure how much work will porting Pango require.
