To clarify some stuff, zlib is listed as released under the BSD license,
but I think it's the new BSD version, which is compatbile with the GNU
GPL.
Furthermore, it comes as a part of the GNU/Linux distributions around.
We are not responsible to distribute zlib, since we only have it in cvs
for systems that do not have zlib development packages already in their
systems (most GNU/Linux systems have zlib installed already).
