setenv, getenv, unsetenv are very portable. If setenv isn't found, use putenv
instead.
getenv: Conforming to BSD 4.3 April 4, 1993 and used in lots of Abi code
already
putenv: Conforming to SVID 3, POSIX, BSD 4.3 April 8, 1993
