Duh! That's what compression does for you! What software package doesn't
do that?

This will not help in reducing the installer size: the installer is
already compressed. It could help in reducing the executable size, but I
don't think that this is useful: often, in exchange for 3mb of HD space,
the tradeoff is that you take up 3mb of memory space and it's harder to
swap out. This would only be useful in some special cases (the
abiword-on-a-floppy case maybe?)
